This is a sound portrait project documenting the men and women who build ships in one of the nation's oldest shipyards in our home town of Bath, Maine. All of these portraits and voice recordings were made in a home-built portable photo studio that we designed and built to be set up on location at Bath Iron Works. We set up each day in advance of the 11:30 am lunch whistle outside of the Southgate entrance to the Yard. The builders have exactly 30 minutes to take a break and eat their lunch. We are grateful for the precious minutes they gave us to make portraits and record their voices.
